Hi Guys,

While I'm not advocating or supporting any political party here (I'm not a supporter of any political party), Fine Gael seem to want to do something about the state of the Air Corps and our lack of air defence aircraft:

Fine Gael speech on defence at 2004 conference (3rd paragraph from the end)

Regards,

Frank.

Firstly I'd like to state for the record that im not a supporter of Fine Gael either, and i dont habitually surf their website to keep up to date with the teachings of their great leader. I just heard about it on the radio, and thought id find out what he said.

Frank, it would appear that Fine Gael seem to want to do something about lots of things, the health service, the transport sector, education, the environment, unemployment...
I think you'll find thats a feature of whatever party is in opposition at that particular time.
If they do get into power, i wouldnt hold my breath waiting for the changes to start rolling in.
Just ask Mr. T Blair

While I generally steer clear of Our civil war policy based Parties. I think Fine Gael have always seen Ireland as deserving her place among the Great European nations. I've never really taken a view on FG/FF/PD's/WP/LP etc etc. (Except the Greens they should stick to Environmental issues.)

But This current batch of Fine Gael seem to have the right ideas, but as with all things it's easy to know what to do when your not the person everyone's telling what to do! (If that makes sense. An opposition party only has to worry about who'll support them. If they mess up only their own voters moan and complain at them. When your in Power EVERYone does.

Smith has done great work with the DF trying to implement a plan (the white paper) that was formulated when the country was shit poor by the Last Fine Gael govt. However the white paper should have been thrown out the window in 1999 when the celtic tiger began! It was planned to have a Defence forces we could afford on a 1995 budget not a 2000 one. The DF got no increase over the last 8 years and have had to sell barracks etc to fund its own re-equipment. Has Health been selling local health centres and Clinics to Build hospitals?? No. Its a rediculous situation but smyth can't be blamed. it was there before him and unless a new white paper (or a green paper) comes out it'll be the same!!

Its interesting to see, that FF/PD through their own stubbornness going ahead with the electronic voting without proper testing have wasted 50 million euro of tax payers money, and considering that the pilatus contract was around 60 million, I certainly wont be voting that party again, that can waste so much and sleep at night. When basic needs of security are crying out for proper funding.

Aaaaaaghhhhh '<img'>
FG won't get a majority no matter what happens - this is certain. This means that they'd need to form a coalition. The current likely candidates are Labour and the Greens, remember them? The ones who gave out about the Mowag purchases.

Wasn't there something recently about the EU passing legislation that would allow the Govt to borrow money from EU coffers to spend on infrastructral development. If so, wouldn't that be the ideal way to free up funding for equipment? Borrow the money for the NRA development of the M50 or the proposed Metro (hah!) and divert some of the previously identified funding into equipment purchases. Mmmm, must accost some FF candidate with that one when they come calling.

They were not there when the whole arguement blew up! at a time when they could have done somrthing to prevent what happened!,,, but elections are looming and they know its a huge point scoring topic in the north....

And what about the Pilots!they are the ones doing all the SAR work... Never a mention of the Brave Loyal crewman... OF course they are the only ones who suffered as always!( the Pilots), and who asked them to move from Dublin, everyone else was using military transport to and from Dublin.....

Elections bring it all out....

Hi Boys,
As some of you quite rightly add that Enda Kenny is very concerned about Air Corps SAR etc, le me give you all a gentle reminder, who, and I stress who disbanded the Air Corps first Medium Lift Helicopter Unit?'<img'>??? yes you have guessed right Fine Gael. Remember Papa 242 our SA 330l Puma Helicopter that did trojan work for the Civil Power, Army Ranger Wing, SAR operations, the major snow storms of the early eighties, and much more. Well for those of you who dont remember I and many others do, and Enda Kenny and his hypocrical press releases is not going unforgotten, see you on June 11th Enda.

Enda was probably only doing his leaving cert back then...

The problem twith this country is that so many people still hold grudges from many years ago. Who was minister for Finance back then? Defence? Not Enda I'm sure!

Take it up with them...

Who dropped the ball on the most recent MLH?'<img'> FF/PD,thats who..
are you going to blame them also?
Running out of people not to blame!

Whatever happened in the past as regards the puma is history if Enda Kenny says he will do something about the aircorps so be it because we are going to be getting the new army support choppers anyway from this government and we know thats all we will get and if the next government gets us MLHs that will be great but we can only gain at this stage because we certainly cant lose anything because we barely have anything to lose!  '[:sus:'
