Hi Guys,

As you will have started to read or hear about by now an Air Corps Cessna aircraft crashed at Clonbullogue in Co Offaly, sadly killing the pilot Lt. Raymond Heery who was the sole occupant.

From RTE.ie News

A young Air Corps pilot was killed during a training exercise in Co Offaly this afternoon.

He was 2nd Lieutenant Raymond Heery, from Oldcastle, Co Meath. The 22-year-old was commissioned as an officer 18 months ago.

Lt. Heery was flying a four-seater Cessna when it crashed shortly after take-off in Clonbullogue just before 1pm. He was the only person on board.

The Irish Parachute Club runs an airfield near the village which is used by the air corps parachute section.

The dead pilot had been on duty carrying parachutists to and from Baldonnel.

The Minister for Defence, Michael Smith, said he learned with great sadness of the tragic accident.

President McAleese has expressed her great sadness following the death of Lt Heery.

I'm kindly asking everyone on the board to please refrain from speculating or theorising on the cause of the crash and to wait until a full investigation has been carried out before commenting on such matters.

I'm sure that I speak for everyone on the board when I say that our thoughts go out to the pilots family and friends at this sad time.

You may post messages of condolences in the thread about the crash on the main Air Corps message board if you wish.

R.I.P.

Regards,

Frank.
