Not the same thing and you know it, the "Air" part of ANG is an extension of an existing and well established group title (which happens to refer to a bunch of fratricidal, tie fighter pilot mentallers) as well as being a large military organisation with enough firepower alone to level a medium sized country.

"Aér Cosánta ná Eireann" Maybe FF??

Translates as Air Defence Ireland. Air Defence is part of the Artillery Corps of the Army. Further Confusion.

"An Fórsa Aer Nasiúnta Eireannach" I'd go for "Irish National Air FORCE"

But....

An Air Corps is an Aviation Brigade of an Army. Thats all we ever had, Currently have a very poor one. and even in the future all we'll ever have!.

How about Berties Bus Service?? Or Harney's Off license Taxi??

The Name's beside the point.

Air National Guard, drop the "National" and you have ..... 'Air Guard' !

This is getting off the point anyway. The name is not that important.

What the future of the AC will be is the main topic here.
 
With the spending of c.€6 million on upgrading the runways recently, is it the case that moving base has not even been considered in the forseeable future ?

Many would agree that 'Air Guard' sounds better than 'Air Corps'. Let's agree-to-disagree on this one, Imshi.


In your IAC-2010 post, you chose the NH90. Would you rate it as the best current choice of medium-lift heli ?

No but its cheaper than the EH101 (superlative for our needs) and more modern than the EC-725 (which would be very adequate)

Yeah, fair enough. I can see what you mean, when you put it like that.

I often thought that 'Irish Air Guard - Garda Aer Na hEireann'  would sound good.
But sadly, without fighter jets, how could they "guard" ?!

At the end of the day, if it was well equipped, I suppose the title would be incidential.

a very interesting debate indeed! Hey IMSHI are you ac management, if not you should be! although i dont think you are... pilot nco's id like that,..... ha ha ha.. some great idea's but i will admit my morale ac wise is rock bottom and i dont think it will recover.... but keep up the idea's they are good..
