Irish Air Corps / Re: New book on IAC
« on: July 18, 2010, 08:34:45 pm »
So, have bought a copy on Friday and started reading it straight away.
None of the catching story telling and one would be disappointed if one is looking for some fancy pictures in it although there are some very good sketches and diagrams and few more or less known photographs. So far.... I'm loving it.

Nice pictures  :applause:
I'd guess that those 1st two cockpit pics are of Dauphin office. I'm too tired for my brain to work and too lazy to look at mine ones, but I'm pretty sure that someone will correct me soon.

East Fortune, absolutely  Old WWII airfield with hangars and stuff and some aircraft here and there too  :rotfl:
And if you get there early, you can get ticket for tour inside the Concord.

What scale is that?

Never seen it in flesh, but the price is a bit steep for what you are getting, seems to me.
Looks like very plain toy-like-thingy, but it looks like Fouga.

BTW still waiting for a proper kit of this airplane

Similar views are being seen all over the place. Friend of mine who lives on the Austrian/Czech bordes has described something very similar a while ago. It was a larger triangle, but it changed the lights/craft in formation. The light from the end moved to the leading place and vice versa, something like the wild geese do.

The CAF didn't take off in this occasion, but aparently Austrians were chasing that object/s with 2 a/c and were flying around for a while after it dissapeard.

Wonder, would PC9 be up the challenge  :alien:

Is there any meaning behind it all or just an colouring excercise?

Don't get me wrong, it's impressive piece of work and something you won't be able to do overnight, just somehow missing the plot on this one  ???

Nice shots  :applause:

Anyone knows what's in that white container on the left, viewing from the front? Life raft?
Thanks

Amazing. It's incredible what cold water, mud and cold weather can preserve. This is another one from Norway:

...and from around Leningrad? St. Petersburgh:

And if you search U-toobe for some of the WWII machinery recovered from lakes and bogs... just add petrol or diesel and off you go...

Nice  :applause:
Reminds me of footage from Viatnam, don't know why though... Maybe the landscape around Curragh looks like large rice field from above.
Nice to see the 'auld' camp in there as well

...and getting some coverage and credit, finally, as the Air Corps and not as 'an army helicopter'.
There were an article or two in Irish Independent as well.

That's the problem with some of the books. I bought 'Paddy Finucane book' off the internet for a big money. I think it was something like 75 bucks and it came all the way from Canada. But even though it wasn't cheap, this was the cheapest price far and wide.
So, the point I am trying to make is, internet is, probably, your best friend and, unfortunately, if it's out of print, the price is, well, as it is.
Good luck.

It should be in the 'Scale modelling' section, but I would wait for a bit longer. There is 1:48 scale PC-9 /M ?/ in the making as a classic plastic kit in the AZ Models workshop.
Thereis no date of release nor price of this kit available, but it will be out in the near future, I've been told  :tounge:
